Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a metroidvania game developed by ArtPlay. In this fantasy world, you will take on a role of Miriam, a cursed woman whose body is slowly turning into a crystal. Her only path to salvation lays within a demonic castle, and so, she has no choice but to venture in. Not unexpectedly, its inhabitants will not welcome Miriam with warm tea and a room to stay. Combat will be much more common than any peaceful interaction. But with hundreds of weapons and offensive magic spells – which can also be upgraded- the fights will not get boring despite their ubiquity. Enemies are not the only obstacle awaiting Miriam in this foreboding castle, either. Many platforming challenges must be overcome simply to get around, while the patient, observant explorer will be able to discover many hidden items. All in all, those features are to be expected from a game in this genre. Instead of trying to introduce new mechanics, or spice things up by mixing in elements from some other genre, ArtPlay attempted – quite successfully – to simply deliver a good metroidvania experience. This game is available on PS4 and Xbox One consoles, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.
