Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is a 2D platformer game developed by Frozenbyte. It is the fourth and the newest game in the Trine series, and as such closely resembles the previous games – it is a platformer in a medieval fantasy setting with beautiful visuals and physics-based gameplay. Though it is worth noting that The Nightmare Prince is more similar to the first two games than the unpopular third installment.
There are three characters available to play as: Amadeus the wizard, Zoya the thief, and Pontius the knight. The player can switch between these three characters at will, as each of them has unique abilities that need to be used in conjunction with each other. To give an example, Amadeus can create objects such as boxes, and use telekinesis to move them around, while Zoya has ropes that she can use to fix objects in place or create rope bridges. Together, these abilities can solve most puzzles in the game. Pontius, on the other hand, is mainly combat-focused.
Trine 4 also introduces an entirely new feature, optional character upgrades. While in the past characters would simply get new abilities by progressing through the game, now the player can unlock certain abilities by spending tokens (while some are still locked behind progression).
Unlike the previous games, however, Trine 4 does not have a Mac port. With this guide, however, you will be able to play Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince on Mac even though the developers do not support this option.
