Wildfrost is a roguelike card battler game developed by Deadpan Games and published by Chucklefish. True to its name, this game is set in a world plagued by eternal winter; your character intends to change that. As you venture out into the snowy wasteland, you will have to face many foes; to deal with them, you will have to use two types of cards. There are item cards, which can be played to deal damage, heal, apply a status effect, and so on. There are also companion cards, which allow you to summon companions you’ve recruited. Once summoned, the companions will attack every few turns – just like your enemies. Keep track of the countdowns, and you’ll be able to prepare for enemy attacks more often than not; this will help you die less often. However, death isn’t really bad in roguelites. Between runs, you’ll be developing a city called Snowdwell; doing so will let you unlock new cards, cosmetics, and events. Since this game lacks a macOS version, you will need a workaround to play Wildfrost on Mac. Read our guide to learn about third-party apps that can be used for this purpose.

Beneath Oresa is a deck-building roguelike game developed by Broken Spear Incorporated. Though the genre is fairly saturated with games, Beneath Oresa has several unique mechanics that help the game stand out. Most importantly, this is a tactical game, not a pure card battler. Fights take place on a map, and positioning is important. Stacking “shield” buff is not the only way to protect yourself from attacks; you can simply move out of the way. Of course, you still need to utilize cards to do most things; this is a deck-builder, after all. Beneath Oresa also has a choice-based upgrade system; every card has two upgrade options instead of just one. It makes cards more flexible, but it also makes upgrades more interesting; you’ll have to consider which version of the card will work better with your deck. All things considered, if you’re into deck-building games, Beneath Oresa might be worth checking out. Unfortunately, it’s a Windows-only game; the developers chose not to support Mac computers. However, you may be able to play Beneath Oresa on Mac anyway. Read the guide below to learn about your options.

The Relic Hunters are determined to uncover the truth about the past by combing through ancient ruins, and expose Duke Ducan as the tyrant that he really is. Of course, this will not be a walk in the park; you will be opposed by Ducan’s secret police, but also by various ancient mechanisms. Paleo Pines is a farming sim game developed by Italic Pig and published by Modus Games. The game’s quirk – and it’s main selling point – are dinosaurs. In the world of this game, dinosaurs never went extinct; they’re also about the size of a horse and mostly friendly. You will be riding a dinosaur, befriend other dinosaurs to help you on your ranch… pretty much everything in this game revolves around them. This includes the game’s story; your personal dino companion, a parasaurolophus named Lucky, may very well be the last of her kind. To investigate, your character will move to an island named Paleo Pines. Though the island is mostly a quiet and unassuming place, it is rumored to be linked to dinosaurs in some mysterious way. Maybe there’s an ancient ruin of some kind, or an abandoned genetic lab…? Who knows; this mystery is yours to uncover. Fate/Samurai Remnant is an Action-RPG in the popular Fate franchise. Developed jointly by TYPE-MOON and KOEI TECMO, this game is a re-imagination of the classic “Holy Grail War” event the franchise is famous for. This time, it is called “the Waxing Moon Ritual”, and takes place in medieval Japan (specifically, during the Edo period). But the idea remains the same; seven mages, called Masters, summon legendary heroes from the past, called Servants. Then, these Master-Servant pairs fight to have their wish granted by a powerful magical artifact. Curiously, you will be controlling both the Master and the Servant during battles. Though combat is the main part of the game, you will also be able to explore various historical locations and interact with the people who live there. Fate/Samurai Remnant is available to play on several platforms, including Windows, Switch, and PlayStation, but not including Mac. Even so, you should be able to play Fate/Samurai Remnant on Mac; several third-party programs can be used to sidestep the compatibility issue. Read the guide below for a more detailed explanation.

Vintage Story is a survival game developed by Anego Studios. The game is both sandbox and open-world in nature; there is no story or forced objectives. The world you’ll be surviving in does have a complex background, but you’ll be able to piece it all together at your own pace, or ignore it completely if you so choose. Similarly, even though the game doesn’t force you to advance in any particular way, there are plenty of goals to pursue, such as the development of metalworking and automation. Getting stuff done will be pretty hard, though, as Vintage Story can be pretty unforgiving at times. By having realistic survival mechanics (for example, you’ll have to keep track of your body temperature), as well as paranormal threats, the game ensures that even staying alive is a challenge. The game advertises itself as “fully playable on Windows and Linux”, but Mac is not an officially available option.
