Age of Empires II is an RTS game originally made in 1999. Twenty years later, an updated version of the game was released by Forgotten Empires; this version is called Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. It brings a plethora of new features to the game, such as improved graphical fidelity, smarter AI opponents, as well as new campaigns and civilizations. Additionally, it includes all DLCs that were developed for previous versions of the game. Despite all the additions and quality-of-life improvements, the gameplay formula remains largely unchanged from the original. The player is put in charge of one civilization, guiding it through four historical ages. For thousand years, they will have to develop the nation’s economy – which is greatly simplified and features only four resources – and, more importantly, defend and wage war against their neighbors. Unlike the original Age of Empires, which could be played on both Windows and Macintosh computers, the Definitive Edition is restricted to Windows computers and Xbox consoles. But there are several unofficial ways to play Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition on Mac. Learn more by reading the guide below.
