Pharaoh: A New Era is a city building game developed by Triskell Interactive. It is a remake of Pharaoh video game, originally developed in 1999 by Sierra Entertainment. It is generally quite a faithful remake, too; most of the changes are graphical improvements and quality-of-life changes. Just like in the 1999 version, you’ll be responsible for a city in Ancient Egypt, providing its citizens with time-appropriate consumer goods like pottery, and, obviously, with food. However, agriculture in Egypt is difficult and dependent on the river Nile, and the game mechanics reflect this. You won’t be able to just designate a farming area; the only arable land is the land that gets flooded by the Nile. Another gameplay mechanic in Pharaoh is Egyptian deities. You can build temples to Ra, Set, Osiris, and countless other gods. Not only will it make your population happy, it will make the gods themselves happy as well (which manifests as a gameplay bonus). The Gnorp Apologue is an incremental strategy game about creatures known as gnorps. The game doesn’t tell us much about what gnorps are like, but they happen to live near a strange rock. When hit, the rock produces shards. While this is not surprising on its own, the rock doesn’t get smaller in the process. And the shards themselves seem to have magical properties, as they can be used for literally everything. Needless to say, the gnorps decide that their entire civilization must revolve around obtaining these shards, and you need to help them to fine-tune this process. There are two steps to it. First, the rock needs to be hit to generate shards. Second, the shards must be retrieved. While this sounds simple, both of these actions can be done in a multitude of ways; the fun part is figuring out the best and most optimal ones. Fortnite Festival is a rhythm game developed by Epic Games. Its only connection to Fortnite itself are the playable characters and the overall aesthetic; but the way these games actually play couldn’t be more different. LEGO Fortnite is a casual survival game developed by Epic Games. It takes place in Fortnite’s universe, but instead of fighting other players in a Battle Royale, you’ll work together to survive on a procedurally generated map. The gameplay loop is rather similar to other survival games; you’ll be gathering resources, crafting tools and upgrades, then using these tools to gather better resources. What distinguishes this game from the others is the prominence of non-player characters. By attracting NPCs into your village, you will be able to secure a slow, but infinite supply of basic resources, and recruit one of them to help you in combat. Constructing structures in this game is easy and satisfying. Obviously, all building is done with LEGO bricks, and there are so many of them that you can create pretty much anything you want. A separate creative mode disables all survival mechanics entirely, allowing players to focus entirely on building.
