CarX Street is an open-world racing game developed by CarX Technologies, LLC. The game is set in Sunset City, presented as a “paradise for street racers”, thanks to all the convenient ramps, winding roads, and wide highways. But the biggest advantage of Sunset City is the existence of “StreetNET”, a mobile app which organizes races and other competitions (like car battles). The winners earn cash prizes and increase their ranking in the racing league; both of these are needed to gain access to better cars. Alongside competitive activities, you can also complete delivery quests or simply explore the city. Avid players of racing games might be already familiar with this game, as it debuted more than two years ago as a mobile exclusive. But the developers gave us a compelling reason to revisit CarX Street now that it released on PC. Unlike the mobile version, which used a free-to-play model, the PC version doesn’t have any microtransactions. As such, the overall experience is much more pleasant – though you will have to pay 20 dollars to access it in the first place. Visions of Mana is a Japanese RPG game developed by Square Enix. It continues the long-running Mana series, which is well-known both in Japan and internationally. The game follows a group of people on a pilgrimage to the Tree of Mana, which maintains magical energy of the entire world. And while some people feel that Visions of Mana is too long – the game takes about 40 hours to complete – it does take its time to explore each character, delve into their past, and showcase their growth as a person. The gameplay is perhaps even more remarkable than the story. Combat is fast-paced and fun, but it also has plenty of depth thanks to the game’s complex build system. Over the course of the game, you will accumulate special items called Elemental Vessels. When equipped, they provide your party members with special powerful abilities. Each character-vessel combination produces a unique result; as such, you have access to a lot of moves, but can only use a fraction of them in any given fight. Concord is a multiplayer-based first-person shooter developed by Firewalk Studios. More specifically, it is a hero shooter: you will shoot your way through the galaxy as one of the quirky Freegunners. Sixteen playable characters are available so far, and it’s highly likely that more will be added in the future. That said, Concord has a decent amount of content even at launch; it has twelve maps and six game modes. All of them are team-based modes, with two teams and five players on each side. Despite this, all of the modes feel distinct and interesting. For example, “Area Control” tasks the teams with capturing and holding a set amount of zones on the map. On the other hand, “Cargo Run” is a mode in which the teams compete to secure a package and deliver it to a pre-determined point. Essentially, it’s an interesting variation of “Capture the Flag”, in which only one flag is available. Then there’s “Trophy Hunt”, which is a variation of team deathmatch. In this mode, killing the players on the other team is not good enough; you will also need to grab their “bounty cards” in order to score. Madden NFL 25 is a game dedicated to simulating the sport known as American football. Developed by Tiburon in partnership with Electronic Arts, this game is the latest installment in EA SPORTS Madden NFL series. It boasts many innovative features; the most notable of them is a physics-based tackling system. This change makes games more exciting and dynamic, since success of each move no longer depends on just a couple of stats. There are some graphical improvements as well. For example, “BOOM Tech” allows the game to create new animations on the fly. Thanks to it, Madden NFL 25 looks significantly more realistic. Finally, the famous Hit Stick mechanic was rebalanced. In this iteration, Hit Stick-based tackles are harder to pull off, but they are also far less essential. Overall, the game is a solid entry in the series, and improves on its predecessor in pretty much every way. Sadly, Electronic Arts continues to ignore Mac as a platform, and this game is not officially available on it. Black Myth: Wukong is an Action-RPG developed by Game Science. Set in ancient China, the game takes inspiration from “Journey to the West” – a classic Chinese novel. Playing as an upright-walking monkey called “the Destined One”, you will be tasked with collecting six great relics of Wukong. Sins of a Solar Empire II is a strategy game developed by Ironclad Games Corporation. Set in a sci-fi universe, the game portrays the struggle of three distinct factions as they vie for the control of the galaxy. Although it advertises itself as a 4X, this is not entirely accurate; combat is far more important than other gameplay mechanics. Much like in an RTS, research and economy exist exclusively to support the war effort. But that doesn’t mean that Sins II is simple. It’s no Stellaris, sure, but there’s plenty of things to do. Micromanaging your fleets during combat can make a real difference, and so can unit customization. There are minor factions you can either fight or ally with, and the game even provides peaceful ways to deal with your enemies. One particularly interesting feature is the dynamic galaxy. This means that the structure of the galaxy changes over time, which also changes the tactical situation on the battlefield. So, even though Sins of a Solar Empire II seems easy at first, there’s plenty of depth to entertain even the most seasoned master. Fields of Mistria is a farming sim game developed by NPC Studio. Despite the intense competition in this genre, this game manages to stand out from the rest. For one, Fields of Mistria is very stylish. Its pixelated graphics will remind older players of Game Boy Advance, while the character portraits are done in a style of an old anime. The soundtrack is also quite good, though obviously, people tend to care more about gameplay mechanics. Thankfully, Mistria is full of content. Even in its current Early Access state, the game features farming, animal husbandry, fishing, interior decorating, combat, and tons of locations to explore. The villagers deserve a special mention; the conversations always feel natural, and there is a lot of them. In many farming sims, talking to your neighbors often feels like a daily chore; you either do it for gameplay rewards, or don’t do it at all. Fields of Mistria, on the other hand, keeps the dialogue interesting enough to make you come back on your own. And, of course, this game has many special events, too. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is the latest installment in the popular horror game series, Five Nights at Freddy’s. Developed by Mega Cat Studios, Into the Pit provides yet another terrifying glimpse into the world of mysterious fast food restaurants. In a curious departure from the usual 3D style, Into the Pit is a side-scrolling game done in a pixel art style. This move was clearly popular with the fans, as the game quickly achieved an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam. The game’s protagonist, Oswald, feels a bit bored of living in a small rural town. This sentiment, however, is soon abandoned when he gets transported into the past and becomes a target for violent animatronics. If that sounds a bit vague, sorry! The story is quite good, and we wouldn’t want to spoil it… but it’s also true that not everything gets explained at the end. But hey, if you are a FNaF fan, you’re used to that already. Sword of Convallaria is a free-to-play JRPG game developed by XD studio. The game takes place in the country of Iria, which is plagued with both internal instability and tensions with other governments. The player – who is a mercenary leader – will be tasked with commanding their troops in tactical combat, as well as fulfilling strategic military objectives. Thanks to its charming pixel art style and great soundtrack, Sword of Convallaria is a joy to play; the gameplay itself, of course, is even more important. The game currently has two game modes, although the developers have also promised to add a third one later. The first one, “The Fool’s Journey”, is generally very easy and serves as a tutorial for the game. The second mode, “Spiral of Destinies”, is much better; it features complex tactical stages reminiscent of Disgaea and Fire Emblem as well as many snippets of intriguing world-building. Furthermore, this mode doesn’t have gacha progression mechanics, so it’s quite enjoyable even for F2P players. Stormgate is a real-time strategy game developed by Frost Giant Studios. Set in a universe that blends sci-fi and fantasy, the game tasks you with defending Earth from an alien invasion. The aliens – who suspiciously resemble angels and demons from Christian mythology – are also divided, fighting each other as well as you. Unfortunately, these lovely chaps do not have their own campaigns yet, but you’ll have the opportunity to control them in multiplayer. Since online play is a big part of any RTS game, the developers of Stormgate put a lot of effort into creating not one, but several multiplayer modes. One of them removes hero units entirely, allowing the old-fashioned players to compete with each other. Another one is a 3v3 mode with a unique mechanic that stops any given player from being entirely wiped out. And there’s also a cooperative mode, which allows two players to play through the campaign together. Since Stormgate was designed to be a free-to-play experience from the very beginning, the barrier to entry is very low. Anyone can download the game and simply start playing… however, Mac players face an additional complication.
