Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is an 2D adventure game developed by Frozenbyte and published by THQ Nordic. It is a sequel to Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, and features the same protagonists, Amadeus, Zoya, and Pontius. The player is able to freely switch between these three characters, which is necessary to solve puzzles and gain an advantage in combat. While combat is relatively fleshed out – there’s even boss encounters – puzzles are much more prominent over the course of the game. Generally speaking, they involve creating and telekinetically moving objects such as planks and boxes. The wide variety of obstacles and open-ended nature of puzzle solutions ensure that it never gets stale. Blasphemous 2 is a Metroidvania videogame developed by The Game Kitchen. As a sequel to the first Blasphemous game, it follows the same protagonist and offers a continuation of the story. Compared to its predecessor, it is more polished, but also more linear. There’s still plenty of exploration to do, though; you can explore the game’s trap-filled dungeons in any order you choose. That doesn’t mean everything is available to you from the start, however. Many places require specific abilities to access. Since these abilities are tied to weapons, you will need to switch between them fairly often. This is needed both for exploration and for combat; many enemy types are weak to specific weapons. As long as you take these weaknesses into account (or have a strong build), combat should be relatively easy; to make sure you don’t get bored, the game will throw a boss encounter at you once in a while. Sea of Stars is a roleplaying game with pixel graphics and turn-based combat. It was developed and published by Sabotage Studio, a Quebec-based team of game developers. Aiming to be a classic RPG, Sea of Stars combines exploration, combat, puzzles, and, of course, storytelling. Traversing the world never feels boring; you will be climbing, jumping, and swimming more often than simply walking. The combat is similarly engaging. Though it is turn-based for the most part, many moves require precise reflex-based inputs. For example, one of the characters throws a boomerang, which must be deflected in time to strike multiple times. To break the pace, fighting is interspersed with various types of puzzles. The story is fairly typical for the genre, exploring archetypal RPG tropes of adventure and friendship. That’s not to say it’s bland, though; quite the opposite, it’s emotional and fun to follow. This game is available on Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, as well as on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. MacOS is not supported, but there are several ways to play Sea of Stars on Mac unofficially. Sunkenland is a survival game with a post-apocalyptic scenario. Developed by Vector3 Studio, the game explores the idea of a world almost entirely covered by the ocean. Construct a stronghold on one of the few remaining islands, or choose to live out in the ocean. Though you will have to defend it against pirates, it will allow you to grow crops and craft equipment. However, the best items in the game cannot be crafted; you will need to explore underground ruins to acquire them. Filled with unknown dangers, these remnants of a bygone civilization attract many scavengers, but not many return from their expeditions. You will have to prepare carefully if you wish to survive. For the time being, Sunkenland is a Windows exclusive, though this may change as the game is still in Early Access. EA Sports FC 24 is a football simulation game by Electronic Arts. It is the latest game in EA Sports FC game series, which was previously known as FIFA. Beyond the updated roster, the game received a number of improvements over its predecessor, FIFA 23. It expands on the amount of movement styles available to football players, and gives them certain unique abilities. Crossplay functionality was also expanded; it now supports VOLTA Football and Clubs game modes. FC 24 also features a number of graphical improvements. Most notably, the amount of in-game animations has almost doubled. Overall, though, this game plays similarly to FIFA 23 and previous games in the series; the change in branding did not affect gameplay in any way. So if you’re familiar with FIFA games, you already know what to expect from FC 24. The game will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, and even on the Switch.
