Blood Bowl 3 is a strategic sports game developed by Cyanide Studio. Set in the Warhammer universe, the game features 12 factions, including orcs, dwarves, dark elves, and humans. All of them will compete with each other in the grisly sport known as Blood Bowl. Though there are rules to this game, they will do nothing to protect your players, as murder, demonic possession, and sorcery are all explicitly allowed. To survive this bloodbath, you’ll have to fight dirty, and, more importantly, use your brain. You’ll have to consider the strengths and weaknesses of your faction, those of your opponent, positioning, abilities, special game rules currently in effect, and other variables. As long as you’re aware of these things, you should be able to develop a winning strategy… but even with a perfect plan, things don’t always go as intended. Immortals of Aveum is a first-person shooter developed by Ascendant Studios and published by Electronic Arts. Unlike most games in this genre, Immortals of Aveum is set in a fantasy world, and doesn’t actually feature any guns. Instead, you will be blasting your opponents with three types of magic, which essentially mimic a pistol, an assault rifle, and a shotgun. Even though all spells belong to these three categories, there’s 25 of them in total, and they can be upgraded as well; as a result, there’s a decent variety of offensive options. It’s not all perfect, though. The story of the game has proven to be polarizing – the writers took some creative liberties not everyone would appreciate – and the game’s world is unfortunately is not as open as many would like, either. But aside from these minor issues, Immortals of Aveum is a solid FPS title, fun and innovative at the same time. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. You were not sent there alone, of course; the game can be played cooperatively, in a group of up to eight players. But even solo players will meet many NPCs, including several iconic characters. From a mechanical perspective, you’ll have to take care of your needs – food, sleep, and comfortable temperature – as well as mine resources to craft better gear. Often, you will find yourself in combat with orcs or other unpleasant creatures, but you may be able to avoid these encounters by managing your noise levels. Sometimes, you might also find ancient ruins containing powerful magic items. You’ll never know where they are in advance, as all environments in the game are procedurally generated. Blade Assault is a 2D platformer game developed by TeamSuneat. You will be playing as a resistance fighter trying to take down an oppressive government, but honestly, the story doesn’t play a large role in this game. Instead, most of your time in Blade Assault will be spent in combat, which is largely focused on melee attacks. You will have the opportunity to maul, slice, and chop hordes of enemies; your attacks change depending on your character and the items you’ve managed to obtain this run. As Blade Assault is a roguelite, you’re expected to play through the game many times until you eventually succeed; each run takes about an hour of real time. Thanks to procedurally generated environments, randomized upgrades, and multiple playable characters, the game has a decent amount of replayability. All in all, Blade Assault is a decent enough title; it may not be the best game in the genre, but it’s still worth playing. DJMAX RESPECT V is a rhythm game developed by NEOWIZ, a Korean game studio. The gameplay is more-or-less what you’d expect; notes fall from the top of the screen in several columns, and you must press a key when they reach a certain point. But although RESPECT V’s gameplay formula is a bit basic, it has many things going for it. You can adjust the difficulty by increasing the number of keys you need to press. The easiest mode, where you have to press four keys, is already pretty challenging, but you can ramp it up all the way to eight keys. So, the skill ceiling in this game is very high. The library of songs is also fairly impressive; hundreds of tracks are available in the base game, and hundreds more can be purchased as DLCs. All things considered, it’s a solid rhythm game, though not a beginner-friendly one. DJMAX RESPECT V is available on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows. Alongside dodging, which we mentioned before, there are skills that can temporarily grant you off-grid movement, reduce the length of the snake, spawn food items, and many others. A big part of this game is the curse mechanic. As you play through the game, you will accumulate corruption, which weakens your character in various ways. There are ways to limit your corruption, but you cannot avoid it entirely. Certainly, it’s an interesting way to make the game harder as you play.
