Batman: Arkham Origins is an action-adventure game developed by WB Games Montreal. It is the third game in the Batman: Arkham series, preceded by Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, and followed by Arkham Knight. That said, it is actually a prequel; the story of the game takes place before all other games in this series. When it comes to the story, Origins puts its focus on exploring the beginnings of Batman. Over the course of the game, he will encounter, for the first time, many iconic characters from the series. He will instill fear into Gotham City’s numerous gangs and criminals. Hard West 2, developed by Ice Code Games is a combination between a Western and a fantasy game; a mix somewhat reminiscent of Weird West. Our protagonist, a renowned criminal named Gin Carter, overheard a legend about a Ghost Train, allegedly filled to the brim with gold. Eyes glistening with greed, he decided to rob it; alas, messing with supernatural forces did not end well for him, as he lost his very soul. Filled with desperation to recover it, he dives head-first into dangers he would have never considered facing before. Mechanically, Hard West 2 is a tactical, turn-based RPG. Out of combat, you will gain experience and recruit followers, obtain equipment for yourself and the party, and distribute skill points. In combat, you will have to pay attention to the environment, carefully position all members of your group, and manage action points. Final Fantasy XIII is a third-person JRPG developed by Square Enix. It is the thirteenth game in the Final Fantasy franchise, not counting spinoffs. Somewhat confusingly, it is also the first game in the Final Fantasy XIII series. The game was popular enough to warrant two direct sequels; however, mainline FF games are never connected to each other when it comes to the story. So XIII and its two spinoffs are grouped together as its own mini-series. The story is set in the world called Gran Pulse, on a floating sphere called Cocoon. The relations between Pulse itself and Cocoon are actively hostile; the citizens of Cocoon live in fear. In the midst of it all, our protagonist Claire “Lightning” Farron embarks on a quest to save her sister, who has been dragged into this conflict. The gameplay is generally similar to other Final Fantasy games, though it did not stay exactly the same. In XIII, only one character can be commanded by the player during battle; the rest of the party are controlled by an AI. Final Fantasy XIII originally released on Xbox 360 and PS3; since then, a Windows version has been released as well. Predator: Hunting Grounds is an asymmetric PvP game developed by IllFonic and published by PlayStation PC LLC. It puts a four-person Fireteam against a single, yet powerful mercenary known as the Predator. Members of the Fireteam are given a different objective during each match; once it is accomplished, they must escape on a helicopter. Coordination is essential in this game mode, as Fireteam members stand no chance against the Predator one-on-one. The players also receive weekly objectives they can work towards during matches, through it is obviously secondary to winning the match. X4 Foundations is a space sandbox game developed by Egosoft for their X Universe game series. Unlike many games in this genre (for example, Elite Dangerous), X4 Foundations, and the series as a whole, do not focus on exploration and combat, though there’s still plenty of that. Instead, the main selling point of this game is its complex, fully simulated economy. Here, the economy works the same way it works in real life, through logistics and supply chains. First, the base resources, such as energy and ore, are produced. Cargo spaceships take these resources and deliver them to factories which turn them into intermediate products, and, somewhere down the line, usable products such as that shiny SPL M Tau Accelerator Mk2 weapon you’ve been eyeing. And if there’s none in stock? Well, maybe it’s because a few Silicon Wafer factories on the other side of the galaxy have stopped production and now there’s a shortage. Time to seize that market share; in this game, you don’t just fly around and trade and shoot. You can, eventually, lead a vast trade empire with many factories and ships under your command. Final Fantasy XII is a JRPG developed by Square Enix for their highly successful Final Fantasy series. Like most other FF games, it features a self-contained story not tied to other games in the franchise. This time, the story takes place in a world called Ivalice. As it is commonly used as a fuel, the line between magic and technology became very blurred; perhaps some would say that this line doesn’t exist at all. The Rozarrian Empire and The Imperial Archadia have long waged war with each other. To gain the upper hand, Archadia has moved to occupy a number of smaller nations. Although they were unable to resist militarily, this move will have consequences. Trouble is brewing in occupied Dalmasca… Final Fantasy XII was originally released on PS2 all the way back in 2006. Eleven years later, in 2017, it was re-relased on PS4 under the title The Zodiac Age; MS Windows, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions followed. Omega Strikers is a multiplayer PvP game in anime style developed by Odyssey Interactive. Releasing on September 17th, 2022, the game enjoyed warm reception and currently ranks “Very Positive” on Steam. Gameplay-wise, many people have compared Omega Strikers to football, or futsal, while in the world of e-sports the closest comparison is Rocket League. All matches take place on a small pitch without any obstacles, with two teams of three players each, and one ball. A team can win the game by scoring five or more goals while also being two points in the lead. But this is not just a virtual football game with anime characters. Said characters have many abilities, both active and passive, that can shape the situation in various ways. The players can also directly attack each other; good luck playing defensively when your goalie is dead. Although the game is currently only available on Windows, the developers also plan to release on other platforms eventually.
