Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is a mecha-based vehicular combat game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is the first entry in the long-running Armored Core series in a decade, with a rebooted story and setting. It was released on August 25, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set on the planet Rubicon 3, where a highly valuable substance called Coral was discovered in the past, leading to an interstellar catastrophe. Almost half a century later, the substance resurfaces on the contaminated and devastated planet, and corporations and resistance groups return to fight over the dangerous resource. Players infiltrate the planet as independent mercenaries and find themselves in the middle of a multi-faction struggle. While the game is available on multiple platforms, there is no Mac version. The game is set in the persistent sandbox world of Nave, where players can engage in various activities such as gathering resources, crafting goods, setting up trade routes, building houses, fortifications, and villages, as well as participating in wars or maintaining peace. There are no classes or levels in Mortal Online 2, allowing players to train the skills they want for their unique build. The game’s plot is not driven by a predefined storyline or voice-work from NPCs. Instead, it relies on the players themselves to create their own stories and flesh out the world of Nave. This player-driven approach encourages players to explore the open world, engage in PvP combat, and participate in the game’s economy and housing systems. Mortal Online 2 focuses on open-world PvP and full-loot mechanics, meaning that players can fight and kill other players, taking their loot in the process. Players can also choose to protect others from marauders and mischief, earning bounties or renown. The game is still in development, with some features such as large-scale PvP, guild objectives, cartography, and certain schools of magic yet to be implemented. Eventually, you hope to get your hands on an artifact that will be able to wipe out the Inquisition’s holy armies, but to do that, you will have to survive first. All models and cutscenes were faithfully recreated, so the game still looks the same as before, just sharper, crisper, and more detailed. It features 38 VTuber characters; all of them have their own unique weapon and three unique skills. As a result, the characters are very distinct from one another. Furthermore, a massive amount of generic items and weapons can be obtained during gameplay, allowing for an impressive variety of builds. Though the game starts off easy, the difficulty quickly ramps up. Additionally, there are several ways to make the game even harder. There’s an item that can make enemies tougher and more numerous. Hard mode activates environmental hazards you’ll have to avoid, while hardcore mode leaves you with only 1 HP. All of these optional challenges ensure that even the most hardcore fan of the genre will find this game fun and engaging, while not making it too difficult for less experienced players. For the time being, HoloCure is available on Windows only; the developers do not plan to add Mac or Linux support anytime soon.
