Modern Combat 5 Blackout is a game in the Modern Combat series, developed and published by Gameloft. Much like all the other games in the series, it is a first-person shooter, however, unlike its predecessors, it is a free game. In addition to that, Modern Combat 5’s gameplay formula has also been redesigned to allow for shorter gameplay sessions – great when you don’t have much time. Featuring both a singleplayer and a multiplayer mode, Modern Combat 5 Blackout has plenty to offer. In the singleplayer campaign, the player will take on a set of missions to take down a terrorist group called The World Liberation Army. The missions go beyond simply killing enemies and include various twists to spice up the gameplay – the player will have to control turrets on moving vehicles, such as boats and helicopters, fight unmanned drones, and take down targets from afar with a sniper rifle. The multiplayer mode, meanwhile, will have the player compete with others in 8 different modes, such as Capture the Flag, Zone Control, and Free For All. There is even a Battle Royale mode – though it has only been added recently and is still in beta. Although Modern Combat, as a series, is generally a mobile-focused franchise, Modern Combat 5 was made available for Windows in 2018, becoming the first game in the series to release on PC. Need for Speed: No Limits is a mobile free-to-play racing game developed by Firemonkeys Studios. Keeping in line with the rest of the series, the game is mainly focused on street racing. The player’s goal, unsurprisingly, is to win the race, however, this is complicated by the need to avoid street traffic as well as the police. The races are generally fairly short to accomodate the mobile players who do not always have time for a long play session, but, despite that, they are varied and challenging – using ramps to get in the air, scratching against walls in tight places, and getting to insane speeds using Nitro Mode is all but required to win.
The player has access to a wide range of cars from high-end sports cars manufacturers, such as McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, and many others, though many of them will have to be unlocked through participation in races or special events. Most of these cars can also be visually customized – indeed, NFS No Limits shines in the area vehicle customization. All sorts of things can be customized – the player can install body kits and widebody kits, change the vehicle’s appearance with paint jobs and wraps, as well as replace wheels. Upgrades that affect actual in-game performance of the car are also offered.
With beautiful visuals and engaging, fast-paced, and challenging gameplay, there are plenty of reasons to check Need for Speed: No Limits out. World War Heroes is a first-person shooter game set during World War II. For those who were hoping for a World War I-themed game from the title – nope, sorry. It’s a WW2 game… yes, another one. While some might feel that WW2 is so prominent in the media that the setting is pretty much overused, there are plenty of reasons why it’s so popular. Being the last and also the largest global conflict to ever occur made World War II very iconic and prominent in mass consciousness. You can’t really go wrong with WW2 as a setting – other than the fact that there’s so much media about it that it’s hard to stand out, it’s a great choice with plenty of things to feature and explore. And feature this game does. Four countries’ equipment is present – not only from USSR and Germany, which no WW2 game will skip but also from US and Japan. Furthermore, game maps are based on the historic locations that played an important role during the war. From the gameplay perspective, a wide variety of different weapons are present, including even the ability to control a tank. There are six different game modes, your usual modes such as team deathmatch, deathmatch, point capture, and capture the flag that is omnipresent and requires no explanation, but also “team battle” which is a variation on team deathmatch in which players do not respawn, and “HQ defense” in which the players must destroy the enemy headquarters while protecting their own. Overall, World War Heroes is a decent first-person shooter, but it is only available on Android and iOS. What about all the PC and Mac users that want to give this game a try? Do not despair, for there is a solution – a number of them, in fact.

League of Legends: Wild Rift is a mobile adaptation of League of Legends, a popular multiplayer online battle arena game. As the developers tried to faithfully recreate LoL experience on smartphones, the gameplay in LoL: Wild Rift is pretty similar to that in LoL proper. In both games, players have to select the character they want to play as. These characters, referred to as champions in the games, have different stats and abilities, which in turn influences gameplay. Each match, the players are split into two teams and have to destroy the other team’s “Nexus” in order to win the game. In addition to being structures to be attacked (and, respectively, defended), Nexuses also spawn “minions” – computer-controlled units that advance towards the opposing team’s Nexus in several lanes, attacking the other team’s units, players, and structures. Aiding your team’s minions is an important part of the games’ strategy, as well as killing them to obtain gold and experience. As the game is match-based, however, any gold, items, and experience obtained during the match is lost after it ends.
That said, even though League of Legends and League of Legends: Wild Rift are pretty similar, there are also differences. They primarily serve to make the game more fast-paced as mobile players tend to favor short game sessions. These changes, like smaller maps and higher (compared to LoL) gold drop rate make quite an impact – in LoL, a match typically lasts around 30 to 45 minutes. In Wild Rift – fifteen minutes.
Of course, this might sound appealing even if you’re not playing on smartphone. Yet, League of Legends: Wild Rift is not available on PC or Mac – it’s been released on Android and iOS only. Thankfully, there is nonetheless a way to play League of Legends: Wild Rift on PC or Mac even though it’s a smartphone-only game.
